Sports Ministry and Rio Olympics a sorry Tale

As the Rio Olympics gradually winds up, our sports Athletics disastrous performance is bringing mixed emotions to all and the country in general. The question in everyones mind is where did it all go wrong. From all indication, our sports men and women did not have the right exposure, training and infrastructures that would have improved their performance in the larger scale and this can be attributed to the negative attitude and vibes from the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Even our athletes who on their own through sacrifice, determination and doggedness tried to participate actively were treated badly by the ministry in respect to issues of allowances and bonuses and it is a shame that a sports man like John Mikel Obi had to carry the financial burden of our so called Nigerian Football Federation. It is quite annoying that some athletes were sent home under the guise of lack of funds while sports administrators who had no business being at the game in the first instance were given preferential treatment. It is on record that the Minister of Sports and the Dream Team are not in good terms and this is also applicable to other sports federations. The Minister of Sports does not understand how the Olympics and Sports in general works. It is quite unfortunate that the medal hopes of the country has been lost due to lack of motivation and incentives from the ministry of sports and this has remained the tradition of sports in the country for more than a decade. As we wait for the Tokyo Olympics in four years time it is my believe that this disaster will never repeat itself as there is no easy way to success except planning, hard work, motivation and incentives for success.
