Federal Government Budget for Sports

The sports industry has grown to the point that Government alone cannot fund. Every year the government makes provision in the annual budget for sports and each year the sports federations are complaining. The reason for this recurring decimal of low funds is based on lack of not involving the private sector. Truly speaking, with the way funds are managed by the government, it will be difficult for the private sector to come on board. One of the factors for low patronage of the private sector is lack of accountability in sports. The bureaucratic bottle necks is not helping matters as it take time for policies to develop and implemented. The amount being spent is low compared to the output expected and the result is few talents discovered with the country only participate in few competitions. The sports federations are over dependent on government with some of the sports administrators failing to keep their campaign promises of financial independence. The federal budget for sports cannot be more than what it is presently as other sectors of the economy cannot be neglected therefore the success of our sports development rest squarely in the hands of the private sector. Sports like football takes a large chunk of sports budget and it is still not enough. Our sports administrators need to look inwards and think outside the box on ways to win over the private sector in sports.
