One of the ways of getting raw talents is through Street Sports. The best place to develop raw talents and to catch them young is from the grassroots and street sports offers these opportunities. Most of the great sports personalities such as Pele, Maradona, Messi, Ronaldo, Hakeem Olajuwon, Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson just to mention a few all started from the streets by just playing the sports they like and today they are household names and world champions. Street sports can be seen as an avenue to reduce poverty, unemployment and insecurity in the environment and if properly managed could fetch good revenue for both the individuals and government. In the western world it has worked and the result is there for everyone to see.In our case,it is left for the Ministry of Youth and Sports to set up policies and work out modalities to achieve set goals. As we know,corporate sponsors will be interested if the program is well marketed, managed, packaged and accounted for as these could be a way for the corporate sponsors and private sectors contributing to their Corporate Social Responsibilities. A public and private partnership is needed and when this is done our country will be better off.
